This position was expressed in a press release from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs published following a meeting held Tuesday in Cairo between the head of Japanese diplomacy, Hayashi Yoshimasa, and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the work of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of foreign ministers.
“Regarding the Sahara issue, Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa welcomed Morocco’s serious and credible efforts to advance the political process,” the Japanese ministry said in this press release.
The head of Japanese diplomacy also underlined the importance of the autonomy plan presented by Morocco while expressing support for the mediation efforts deployed by the United Nations Secretary General and his Special Envoy for the Sahara.
Mr. Hayashi, on the other hand, highlighted the excellent relations that Japan and Morocco have always maintained on the basis of the solid ties of friendship between the Japanese imperial family and the Moroccan royal family. In this context, he expressed Japan’s determination to further strengthen these relations in several areas, particularly those of business and investment.
For his part, Mr. Bourita praised the ancestral ties of friendship that have always existed between the two countries, while expressing the willingness of the Kingdom of Morocco to deepen cooperation between the two countries in a wide range of areas including exchange of high-level visits, trade and investment as well as political dialogue.
Furthermore, the two ministers exchanged views on urgent regional and international issues, including the situation in North Korea and Ukraine, said the Japanese ministry, noting that the two parties underlined, in this context, their desire to act together on the various issues affecting the international community.
