Dmytro Kuleba, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, embarked on a diplomatic mission to South Africa with the aim of elevating cooperation between the two nations to a “qualitatively new level.” This visit comes approximately five months after a peace initiative in Ukraine involving a d犀利士 elegation of African heads of state led by Cyril Ramaphosa.
Amid criticism of South Africa’s associations with Moscow, Kuleba engaged with his South African counterpart, , to advocate for stronger collaboration between Ukraine and the African continent.
Kuleba emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to fostering relations with South Africa based on “mutual respect and benefits.” He expressed satisfaction that the South African government shared these aspirations, promoting a partnership focused on shared interests.
Kuleba also acknowledged South Africa’s participation in endeavors to support President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s peace proposal, which was first introduced at the G20 summit in Indonesia in November 2022. During the visit, Kuleba invited South Africa to engage in the ongoing World Peace Summit hosted by Ukraine and its partners and encouraged their involvement in Ukraine’s food program, “Grain.”
South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor endorsed her country’s initial decision to maintain a non-aligned stance. She highlighted the unique position that South Africa holds, allowing it to engage in diplomatic dialogues with both Ukraine and Russia, underscoring their role as a bridge between the two nations.
