An outbreak of anthrax in southern Uganda’s Kyotera district claimed the lives of at least 17 individuals during November, confirmed by Dr. Edward Muwanga, the district’s health officer. The Bacillus anthracis bacterium, which remains in spore form in the soil where infected animals were previously buried, can transmit to humans, posing fatal risks in rare cases.
Dr. Muwanga highlighted that those who died in November were suspected of consuming meat from a farm where the animals 壯陽藥 had contracted the disease.
Efforts to manage the situation involve collaboration with Ministry of Health teams from Kampala and the World Health Organization (WHO), currently on-site to assist in containment efforts. Dr. Muwanga assured that measures are in place, and the situation is presently under control.
