In a devastating incident, more than 20 individuals lost their lives on Sunday after shells struck a market in the suburb of Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, as reported by a committee of pro-democracy lawyers.
The ongoing violence, which began in April, has resulted from clashes between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the commander of the Rapid Sup壯陽藥 port Forces (RSF). This conflict has created significant unrest and has taken a heavy toll on the region.
According to the committee of pro-democracy lawyers, the fatal shells hit the market in Omdurman during an intense exchange of fire between the warring factions. A statement released by the committee confirmed that more than 20 civilians lost their lives, and many others sustained injuries in the tragic event.
On the previous day, a medical source had reported that shelling resulted in the deaths of 15 civilians in Khartoum. Omdurman, in particular, has frequently been the site of fierce battles and escalating violence between the two opposing sides.
While the majority of the fighting had previously been confined to the capital and the western region of Darfur, it has recently spread to areas south of Khartoum, according to eyewitness accounts. The conflict’s devastating impact is apparent, with a conservative estimate by the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project indicating that over 10,000 people have already lost their lives.
However, it is essential to acknowledge that aid groups and healthcare professionals have repeatedly emphasized that the actual human cost is much higher than the recorded figures. Many victims and casualties never reach hospitals or morgues, making it challenging to document the full extent of the tragedy.
The war has forced an estimated 5.5 million individuals to flee their homes, both within Sudan and across its borders, based on data from the United Nations. This ongoing conflict remains a matter of grave concern and calls for immediate attention to alleviate the suffering of the affected population.
