South Africa Withdraws Bid to Host 2027 Women’s World Cup Soccer Tournament.

South Africa opted out of the bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, citing the decision to focus on presenting a more thoroughly prepared proposal for the 2031 event rather than submitting a rushed presentation to Fifa in December.

Lydia Monyepao, the head of the South African Football Association, highlighted their choice, stating, “We felt it was more strategic to put forth a well-prepared bid for 2031, rather than a hastily assembled presentation.”

With South Africa’s withdrawal, three bids now remain in contention to host the 2027 tournament. These include a joint proposal from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany; another bid from the United States and Mexico; and a third bid from Brazil.

The final selection of the host country or countries will be determined during the Fifa Congress scheduled to take place in Bangkok in May.

In the previous Women’s World Cup held in the summer of 2023, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, Spain emerged as the victor.
