South Africa: Minister Maropene Ramokgopa participates In High-Level Conference On Korea-Africa Partnership, 4 To 6 October

The Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Ms. Maropene Ramokgopa will participate in the High-Level Conference on Korea-Africa Partnership in Nairobi, Kenya from 04- 06 October 2023. The Korea-Africa Partnership is recognized as one of the African Union’s (AU) official strategic partnerships with the primary objectives to drive economic development and build sustainable diplomatic relations between African countries and Korea.

In addition, the conference strives to foster collaboration, promote knowledge exchange, and identity projects that promote the growth of the African economy. The conference will have over 25 African states participating with Minister Ramokgopa representing the Republic of South Africa. Through her participation at the Conference, Minister Ramokgopa will underscore the importance of Korea-Africa relations being synergized and aligned to the vision, missions aspirations, and goals of the Agenda 2063 ‘Africa We Want’. The Minister will promote Korean support for identified African projects to enhance regional and Continental integration.

This will include the promotion and investment in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) which will be the largest trade area in the world since the formation of the World Trade Organisation, thus boosting regional income by 70% (US$450 billion) with a potential of spending up wage growth for women and lifting 30 million people out of poverty by 2035.

Minister Ramokgopa is expected to hold bilateral consultations with key stakeholders and interlocutors on the sidelines of this Conference to advance SA’s policy positions including those contained in the National Development Plan.

Minister was received and welcomed to Kenya by His Excellency, Ambassador MJ Mahlangu, South Africa’s High Commissioner to Kenya.
