South Africa: Kinetiko Energy to Kickstart 5-Well Drilling Campaign in 2024

Australian gas explorer Kinetiko Energy has obtained approval to initiate a five-well drilling campaign in the southern region of Exploration Right 271 (ER271) in South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province.

Representing a crucial step towards verifying the feasibility of large-scale gas field projects in the area, drilling will commence in February 2024, with appraisal wells set to be completed for production.

Nick de Blocq, CEO of Kinetiko Energy, explained that, “We expect to commence drilling five appraisal production wells to the west and north of Volksrust in February 2024. These sites have already undergone environmental site assessments and have been approved by the Regulator.”

The appraisal wells aim to provide a clear indication of optimal development sites for cluster of wells. In addition to drilling operations, the company is also planning extended flow tests to refine financial projections and potentially enhance gas reserve certifications.
