Originally committed to reducing emissions to 350-420 million tonnes by 2030, South Africa grapples with bureaucratic delays and a pressing power supply crisis, hindering the timely decommissioning of these plants. Despite these challenges, South Africa maintains its pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, as stated by the Environment Ministry. The ministry is set to present its latest greenhouse gas inventory report to the United Nations in preparation for the upcoming COP28 summit later this month.
