Shell Announces Gas Discovery Offshore Egypt

British multinational oil and gas company Shell has disvovered a gas reservoir at the North East El-Ammiya block in the Mediterranean Sea, offshore Egypt.

The discovery was made at 250m below sea level using Stena Drilling’s Stena Forth drillship. The well bearing the discovery is Shell’s first in a campaign in which the major will drill three exploration wells in the area.

Khaled Kacem, Vice President and Country Chair of Shell Egypt, said the company, along with its partners, will undertake additional studies to assess the project’s reserves and formulate a strategic roadmap to ensure a secure and efficient development of the initiative. Shell’s partners in the block include the Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company.

“This discovery is an important step forward for Shell Egypt bolstering our growth aspirations and ongoing commitment as a key partner in Egypt’s energy landscape,” stated Kacem.
