During his stay in China for the summit planned from 4 to 6 September, Bassirou Diomaye Faye visited Huawei’s demonstration center. The president discussed with the company to see how much helpful it could be in making digitalization a reality in the Senegalese public services.
This was the opportunity for the newly elected president to discover the technological advances of the Chinese giant. In a time where digitalization is seen as a key part of the current regime’s priorities, Huawei will offer innovative solutions in various sectors, aimed at meeting the challenges of digital development in Senegal.
“These innovations proposed by the company can reduce the energy bill for the government and for the Senegalese citizen wherever they are in the country,’ the president of the Republic stated in a speech reported by RTS journalists.
Both sides formulated concrete proposals to set up a talent ecosystem and make grow a systemic transformation of Senegal. President Diomaye Faye, who insisted on that point during his very first speeches as Senegalese president, raised the idea of a long-term partnership with Huawei, the Chinese multinational of innovative digital communication technologies.
At the end of a visit to the Huawei demonstration center in Beijing, the president underscored that the State of Senegal and the Chinese digital giant could sign a long-term partnership, mainly because of the projects started by the new government in several sectors requiring innovative solutions. He insisted on the importance of projecting into the long term as part of the implementation of the new framework for Senegal’s public policies.
“You will see that as a growth engine, digital technology will play an important role in the systemic transformation of Senegal,” he declared.
According to the president, the partnership with the Chinese giant will first be validated by the supervisory ministry in order to have confirmation that it fits with the country’s vision of digital transformation while respecting the concern for sovereignty.
