Safaricom Ethiopia Expands Network to 32 Cities, Receives Community Recognition

Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC has announced the expansion of its network in the Chiro cluster, extending coverage to 32 cities and 114 sites across Eastern and Western Hararghe. On September 4, 2024, CEO Wim Vanhelleputte led a cross-functional team to Chiro, where new shops were opened, and engagements were held with the mayors of Kulubi, Chelenko, Karamille, and Hirna. The expansion was marked by ribbon-cutting ceremonies in these towns, with the local mayors and officials expressing strong support for the initiative.

The company’s efforts in boosting technology accessibility, job creation, and educational capacity were acknowledged with a Certificate of Acknowledgment from Chiro Mayor Mohammed Omar. This expansion is part of Safaricom Ethiopia’s ongoing commitment to fostering regional growth and advancing digital services in Ethiopia.
