Rwanda’s former Minister for Public Service and Labour FanFan Rwanyindo Kayirangwa is set to take on a new role as Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa at the International Labour Organization (ILO), effective October 1.
This appointment elevates Kayirangwa to a key position within ILO’s global management team.
ILO is a UN agency dedicated to advocating for social justice and the promotion of internationally recognized human and labor rights, with a primary focus on advancing a decent work agenda.
Rwanda, a member of ILO since 1962, has actively participated in the organization’s initiatives, including hosting the 19th Regional Seminar for Labour-based Practitioners in May.
Kayirangwa’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws, earned in 1997 from the National University of Rwanda, and a Master of Laws, granted in 2010 by the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Her career trajectory has been notable. Before 2004, she was in the financial services sector. She served as the legal adviser and credit officer at the Commercial Bank of Rwanda, now known as I&M Bank Rwanda Limited, from 1998 to 2004.
In 2004, she transitioned to the judiciary of Rwanda.
She began as a Justice of the High Court of Rwanda and later moved to the Commercial High Court in 2008. In recognition of her capabilities, she was appointed Vice-President of the Commercial High Court of Rwanda in October 2013.
From 2017 to 2023, Kayirangwa held the vital position of Minister of Public Service and Labor in Rwanda. Her tenure saw significant contributions to the nation’s labor policies and initiatives. She was succeeded by Jeannette Bayisenge in her role as Minister.
