Namibia’s state utility NamPower has issued a tender for an engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the 40 MW Otjikoto Biomass Power Station near the city of Tsumeb in northern Namibia.
Situated on a project site covering approximately 0.4km2, the power station will be strategically located near the existing NamPower Otjikoto Substation and is poised to stimulate a local biomass fuel supply chain in the country’s Oshikoto region.
With a generation capacity of 40 MW, the Otjikoto Biomass Power Station will feature a configuration of either two 20 MW boilers with a common steam collector, or a single 40 MWe boiler, turbine, and generator.
Costs for the Otjikoto Biomass Power Station will be leveraged from NamPower’s balance sheet, with the power utility set to serve as the project’s owner and operator.
