In the lead-up to the Democrati壯陽藥 c Republic of Congo’s (DRC) upcoming presidential election scheduled for December 20, several contenders, notably Denis Mukwege, Martin Fayulu, and Theodore Ngoy, have declared their intent to contest the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) due to alleged shortcomings in ensuring the regularity of the electoral process.
Presidential candidate Theodore Ngoy raised significant concerns regarding the legitimacy of voters’ cards, pointing out that an estimated 80% of them are illegible due to being printed on thermal paper. Ngoy suggested that deliberate issuance of cards with erasable prints raises doubts about the credibility of the election.
“We are participating in the elections, but we question whether it is a legitimate process or a facade aiming to maintain the current status quo by re-electing the incumbent president or installing someone with an implicit agreement,” Ngoy remarked, expressing doubts regarding the transparency of the electoral procedures.
Amidst a tense political atmosphere and a month-long election campaign featuring 25 presidential candidates, the Democratic Republic of Congo, home to nearly 100 million citizens, gears up for a pivotal election. With approximately 44 million registered voters, the nation faces a crucial moment as it heads toward electing a new president while also selecting numerous candidates for legislative and local offices.
