Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) said on February 4 that it has secured an agreement with Ryanair for the resumption of flights to and from Morocco.
A statement from the ONMT said that its Director-General, Adel El Fakir, held a meeting with the Top Management of Ryanair airlines.
The statement noted that the ONMT-Ryanair agreement is crucial forMoroccosector’s tourism as the flag carrier is one of the primary actors in Morocco’s air travel industry.
“Today, we were able to reconfirm with strength our partnership with Ryanair, the first European airline,” added the statement.
After visiting Paris and London, it went on, “the ONMT Task Force made a stopover in Dublin, stronghold of Ryanair, in order to meet the Top Management of the company, including Jason McGuinness, commercial director of Ryanair.”
The meeting is in line with Morocco’s decision to reopen air borders, ONMT noted, adding that “the imminent resumption of the company’s programming on various destinations in Morocco will therefore have a strong impact on the entire national tourism ecosystem.”
Ryanair intends to finalize its 2022 summer programming in Morocco with a capacity that may exceed by more than 50% that of the same period of 2019.
With over 117 routes, the firm connects Morocco from 51 European airports to ten Moroccan destinations and is a prominent actor in the development of point-to-point services between Europe and Morocco.
The company is the leader in terms of seat capacity on the destination, with over 2.5 million seats per year and a third of the market share of air travel in Morocco in 2019.
ONMT’s meeting with the Ryanair Top Management comes as part of the Moroccan office’s efforts to promote Morocco’s tourism abroad.
Tourism operators in Morocco hope the relaunch of travel will revive this vital sector, which was the most hit by the closure of borders.
