President Mohamed Ould Sheikh Al-Ghazouani said that receiving project works within the specified deadlines and agreed upon specifications must be a rule, not an exception.
President Ghazouani added, during a field visit to the ongoing works to build the new university complex for the University of Nouakchott. Supervisors of this project are required to adhere to deadlines while taking into account quality standards.
The President pointed out the necessity of completely abandoning “extended deadlines in terms of time, and flexible implementation in terms of quality, for public works… because that is unacceptable, and will not be accepted in absolute terms,” as he put it.
The new university complex was laid by President Ghazouani at the beginning of last January. It includes the construction of four colleges, with a total of 16 large amphitheaters, 157 offices for administrative use, 209 classrooms, and 49 scientific and linguistic laboratories.
The Ministry of Housing confirms that the contractual deadlines are 24 months, of which about 40 percent have passed today, while the progress of the works has reached 65 percent. By the end of the works, the university’s capacity will increase from 14,000 students to 25,000 students.
