Mauritania: Our Counter-Terrorism Strategy Is Effective Despite The Region’s Fluctuations

The Mauritanian government said that its strategy to combat so-called “terrorism” has been successful in recent years, despite what it described as “fluctuations” experienced by the region, in reference to the tense security conditions experienced by the African Sahel region.

This was stated by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Defense, Major General Suleiman Abouda, during an intellectual symposium organized by the Ministry of Defense yesterday, Tuesday, on the Mauritanian approach and the role of Mauritanian scholars in “fighting terrorism and extremism.”

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense said that Mauritania “succeeded in recent years in implementing an effective and effective strategy to combat terrorism and various forms of fanaticism and extremism.”

The Mauritanian military official explained that this came “within a comprehensive approach that takes into account the security, intellectual, economic and social dimensions.”

He stressed that the approach succeeded despite “all the fluctuations experienced by the Sahel region, which is considered a haven for terrorism, extremism, and cross-border crime.”

The Secretary-General of the Mauritanian Ministry of Defense concluded that the success of the Mauritanian approach was due to what he said was “the important role played by Mauritanian scholars, through intellectual and scientific dialogues, which strengthened the approach of moderation and spread the culture of moderation and tolerance.”
