Ms. Savia Ntehah, Minister of Social Action, Children and Women, held the official launch of the activities of the organization Women & Proactiv Leaders Mauritania on Thursday, August 31, at the former convention center in Nouakchott.
WPLM is an NGO that works for the education and training of young people, especially young women in entrepreneurship and leadership. This association promotes the improvement of living conditions and the granting of more power to people considered to be minorities, particularly women, to act on social and economic conditions.
Thus, ”Women & Proactiv Leaders Mauritania highlights the opinions and points of view of young women on issues relating to women’s participation and their empowerment through education,” said Ms. Amina Habib, president of WPLM.
The objectives are as follows:
• Promote the education of girls and women;
• The awakening of consciousness in the young girl;
• The empowerment of the young girl;
• Conditioning for female leadership;
• Valorization of women in society;
• Women’s access to decision-making bodies;
• Strengthen youth engagement for positive change;
• Strengthen the participation of women in the labor market;
• Bridging gender-based disparities and inequalities;
• Educate a conscious and responsible youth;
• Promote female leadership and empowerment of women;
• Reduce gender-based injustices (violence).
• Fight against harassment and violence against women
• Set up a social incubator and resource center for women
”WPLM is an initiative that aims to empower women through education and leadership by opening up social and economic opportunities for Mauritanian women from vulnerable communities and rural localities through the delivery and transmission of city women through financial education for women and basic education for girls. This project places Mauritanian women at the heart of the promotion of financial independence of young people and employment to aspire to economic stabilization and in order to contribute to the realization of guarantees of women’s rights in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. said Ms. Amina Habib, president of WPLM.
Ms. Amina estimated that ”WPLM is an action of openness and projection which aims to promote the development of women, freedom with respect, tolerance and social cohesion through meetings, training and awareness on the importance of women’s education in our society.
For her part, the Minister of Social Action, Children and Families, Ms. Saviya mint N’Tahah stressed that this launch of activities constitutes a new milestone which adds to the associations operating in the field of the empowerment of women, particularly with regard to training and taking serious female initiatives. The secretary general of the organization, Mrs Marième mint Bah, for her part, underlined that the evolution of knowledge and the contexts of globalization have made the creation of this organization necessary and urgent to support change through training and motivation to create their own employment opportunities.
The organizers took advantage of this opportunity to reward two women fighters. Two resilience prizes were awarded to Ms. Marieme Moctar, dyer, who was awarded 100,000 Mru and Yasmine Ethmane, fruit seller in front of the Sebkha market gardens, who received 50,000 Mru.
