Mauritania: Africa Climate Summit – Minister Of Economy Presents The State’s Experience In Combating The Effects Of Climate Change

His Excellency the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, participated in the activities of the second day of the first African Climate Summit, held in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, as part of the specialized sessions of the day.

The minister addressed, in his capacity as main speaker, during the first session on the possibilities of coping with drought in Africa, the experience of our country in this area by presenting the government policies which have made it possible to reduce the effects of this phenomenon.

He also mentioned the serious economic repercussions of this phenomenon, in particular the large waves of rural exodus towards the cities, thus leading to serious economic and social consequences which have affected the country’s development policies.

The minister also mentioned during his intervention the effective vision adopted by the Mauritanian government to deal with this phenomenon, thus mitigating its negative effects.

Hydrogen and the green economy

Regarding the second session organized by the African Development Bank, it was devoted to the discussion of the initiative relating to the use of renewable energies financed by the African Development Bank, such as the Sustainable Energy Fund in Africa, for which several partners have announced their contribution to its financing.

Furthermore, His Excellency the Minister reviewed the experience of our country in the field of the exploitation of renewable energies and the interventions of partners to support this orientation, in particular on the part of the African Development Bank, which contributed to the availability of energy for the population.

The minister also discussed the example of large energy projects financed by partners, such as the high voltage line linking Mauritania to Mali, which crosses several Mauritanian cities.

On the other hand, His Excellency the Minister participated in a third specialized session on the financing of hydrogen and the green economy in Africa in general.

During his speech, the minister highlighted the need to provide concessional financing to stimulate growth in this sector and to reform the international investment system, which would allow developing countries to obtain financing deemed acceptable.
