“Call from political parties for peace and stability in Mali”. This is the document signed by several political groups yesterday Monday in Bamako in which they call on the government to take all its responsibilities firmly to defend the unity of the country, territorial integrity, peace and stability.
In Mali, the political class is worried about the resumption of hostilities between the Malian army and the armed groups signatories of the agreement for peace and reconciliation.
Gathered yesterday in Bamako, several parties denounced the obvious secessionist attempts of certain armed groups and the urgency of vigorous action by all the active forces around the FAMA against terrorism and crime.
Faced with this situation, they called on the government “ to take all its responsibilities firmly to defend unity, territorial integrity, peace and stability”. Adding that “territorial integrity and sovereignty are non-negotiable”.
In the process, they reaffirmed their commitment to supporting all initiatives of the transitional authorities to combat terrorism and organized crime. The signatories of this document have, moreover, denounced “the declaration of war” made by the permanent strategic framework for the coordination of movements in Azawad. Deploring the declarations of war, the political parties have subscribed to the implementation of the agreement for peace and reconciliation resulting from the Algiers process. For them, the increase in violent and complex armed attacks constitutes a violation of the agreement for peace and reconciliation and human rights.
Faced with this situation, the signatory political groups denounced the incomprehensible persistent “mutism” of the organizations of human rights defenders and ECOWAS, the European Union and the United Nations in the face of the atrocities committed by the attackers against the civilian populations. Thus, they called on mediation to force all signatory movements of the peace and reconciliation agreement to respond to the government’s call to return to the negotiating table. For the signatories, the crimes committed must not go unpunished. This is why they have launched impartial investigations with a view to identifying, apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators and sponsors of the massacres perpetrated against the civilian and military populations.
Hostilities have resumed between the Malian army and the armed groups signatories of the peace and reconciliation agreement. The positions of civilians and soldiers have been the subject of several attacks resulting in the death of dozens of civilians and soldiers in central and northern Mali. The bloodiest attack was that perpetrated by the group supporting Muslims and Islam against the boat Timbuktu, killing 49 civilians, according to the official report. The Malian army, for its part, declared that it had neutralized dozens of terrorists behind these massacres.
