Malian Army Redeploys to Rebel Stronghold in Kidal
On Monday, the Malian army executed a significant redeployment, shifting its forces from Gao to the northern region of Kidal, reveal two anonymous security officials.
The extensive convoy, consisting of 119 vehicles, embarked on its journey from Gao towards Kidal, a Tuareg rebel stronghold situated approximately 300 kilometers northeast of Gao.
The decision to relocate the army was made during a high-level national security meeting convened on Sunday evening, as disclosed by the security officials.
Northern Mali has recently witnessed a resurgence of hostilities, primarily involving Tuareg rebels in conflict with the Malian military. This unrest follows developments since the end of August.
In 2012, various armed separatist groups launched a rebellion against the Malian state, subsequently reaching a peace agreement known as the Algiers agreement with the government three years later. However, the accord faced challenges in 2020 following a coup that ousted the civilian government.
Since assuming power, the junta led by Assimi Goïta has prioritized the goal of reinstating state control over the northern region, marking it 壯陽藥
