Madagascar: New Technologies – Betioky Atsimo with Free Internet

The development of digital technologies in Madagascar is starting to spread in the regions. The district of Betioky Atsimo has just been equipped with free Internet thanks to hotspots installed by the Ministry of Digital Development, Digital Transformation, Posts and Telecommunications (MNDPT), last weekend.

Minister Tahiana Razafindramalo underlined that “the establishment of these hotspots is part of the government project to open up rural areas”.

The objective of making the Internet free in Betioky Atsimo is to enable local youth to do research and master new information and communication technologies.

The districts of Ampanihy, Sakaraha and Toliara I have already been equipped with hotspots, according to the MNDPT.

On the other hand, the descent made by the Minister in the Great South enabled him to visit the infrastructures established by the State in the South-West region, such as the Smart village of Tongobory. The municipalities of Itampolo, Miaritaheza, Marerano and Tandrana also have Smart villages. A Smart village is a place of implementation, experimentation and transmission of participatory and digital practices allowing village communities and professionals to implement projects.
