A judge, Alfred Kwabena Asiedu, has faced dismissal from the Judicial Service of Ghana due to his involvement in an inappropria犀利士 te relationship with a woman embroiled in a divorce case being heard in his court.

The decision to dismiss Justice Asiedu, who presided over cases at the Jasikan Circuit Court, came as a result of an investigation into allegations of misconduct within the divorce case. Chief Justice of Ghana, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, conveyed this dismissal in a letter dated November 13, 2023, disclosing that the Disciplinary Committee found evidence of his improper relationship with the petitioner involved in the divorce case.

The investigation also uncovered allegations of abuse of power and malicious prosecution. Asiedu was accused of instigating the arrest and prosecution of the petitioner without valid justification. Singari Diana Sadia lodged a petition on January 16, 2023, outlining these claims of abuse, exploitation, malicious prosecution, and impropriety against Justice Asiedu.

Upon receiving the petition, the Chief Justice forwarded it to the Judiciary Service’s disciplinary committee for a comprehensive investigation. The committee’s findings substantiated the allegations, confirming an inappropriate relationship between Asiedu and the petitioner involved in the divorce case.

Additionally, the committee upheld accusations of abuse of power and malicious prosecution against the judge. Consequently, following the Judicial Council’s 279th meeting on October 25, 2023, the council determined that Asiedu’s actions amounted to Stated Misbehaviour, leading to his immediate removal from office.

The Chief Justice directed Asiedu to promptly surrender all official possessions, including his official vehicle, case files, and record books, to the Judicial Secretary. Furthermore, the Director of Human Resources was instructed to promptly strike Asiedu’s name from the Judicial Service’s payroll.

This dismissal serves as a stern action taken by the Judicial Service against the Judge, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct within the judiciary.
