Jamshedpur FC’s 2023-24 Indian Super League campaign has taken an unexpected turn following a setback to their star striker, Peter Sliskovic, who sustained a serious injury during the club’s pre-season training sessions. With Sliskovic set to spend a significant period on the sidelines, the club’s management has moved swiftly to secure a replacement, and Steve Ambri has emerged as the frontrunner for the role.
Steve Ambri’s profile
Steve Ambri, a versatile forward with both pace and technical prowess, was born in France but chose to represent Guinea-Bissau at the international level. His ability to play in various attacking positions and his keen eye for goal make him a valuable asset for any team. Ambri has played five international games for his national team and was also called up to Guinea-Bissau’s squad in the 2021 African Cup of Nation’s tournament.
Ambri, 26, has previously plied his trade in France, where he made a name for himself in Ligue 2 and lower divisions. His journey from the French grassroots to becoming an international for Guinea-Bissau showcases his dedication and passion for the sport. The move will also mark Steve’s first venture into Indian football.
His presence in the team could provide the much-needed firepower and creativity that Jamshedpur FC require. Ambri’s arrival may also offer head coach Scott Cooper additional tactical options and formations to explore.
Jamshedpur FC’s preparation
Jamshedpur FC have made quite a number of changes in the setup over the summer. Englishman Scott Cooper was named as the head coach after Aidy Boothroyd’s departure. The club has signed former Inter Milan player Alen Stevanovic as their marquee signing (who is also their captain) whereas amongst the domestic contingent, the Men of Steel have acquired Nongdamba Naorem among others over the course of summer.
Jamshedpur FC played out a goalless draw away at Kolkata against East Bengal and are scheduled to travel to Kochi for their upcoming game against Kerala Blasters FC.
