Tragic Loss: Ghanaian Striker Raphael Dwamena, 28, Passes Away After On-Pitch Collapse in Albania
Ghanaian striker Raphael Dwamena has died at the age of 28 after collapsing during a league match in Albania. Playing for Egnatia against Partizani on Saturday, Dwamena, the leading scorer in the Albanian league this season with nine goals, received immediate intervention from specialist doctors but unfortunately did not survive, as confirmed by the Albanian Football Federation (AFL).
All games scheduled in Albania this week have been postponed, with the AFL expressing its deepest condolences to Dwamena’s family and t犀利士 he Egnatia club. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) also extended condolences, acknowledging Dwamena’s significant contributions to the national team.
Dwamena, who won nine caps and scored two goals for Ghana, faced a challenging career marked by a failed medical in a proposed £14m move to Brighton in 2017. Despite setbacks, he played for Levante in La Liga and Real Zaragoza on loan. In 2021, Dwamena collapsed during a cup match in Austria but recovered and continued his career after a reported heart operation and the implantation of an automatic defibrillator.
Levante expressed their condolences, noting that Dwamena’s legacy in the club would last forever, while Zaragoza conveyed their devastation and paid tribute to the former player.
