Ghana: MultiChoice To Invests Millions In Original African Content

Mr. Alex Okyere, the Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana, the company behind the popular satellite television service DStv, has revealed substantial investments in the production of original African content to cater to their viewers’ needs.

MultiChoice, which also operates the GOtv service across multiple countries, along with Showmax, has made a significant financial commitment to produce high-quality African content for its customers. Okyere made these remarks during the MultiChoice Ghana Media Showcase held in Accra.

Highlighting MultiChoice’s reputation as the “home of African content,” Okyere emphasized their dedication to showcasing the finest talents from across the continent while consistently delivering superior production value. This commitment has made MultiChoice a sought-after platform for the viewing pleasure of its clients.

GOtv, in particular, has played a significant role in energizing the local movie industry in Ghana. By offering a diverse range of Ghanaian content, it has introduced new leading characters and generated considerable buzz.

Notable local productions which will premiere in the coming weeks on Akwaaba Magic include: ‘Market Queens,’ ‘Ekaw Danfo,’ ‘Madam,’ ‘To Have and To Hold,’ ‘Leg Work,’ ‘Kasa no y3 more’ and ‘Husband Material’.

Mr. Okyere stated, “MultiChoice, being Africa’s most loved storyteller, is not just about amplifying amazing stories from across the continent but also about creating, writing, and producing authentic and original programs that resonate with our clients on our local channels Akwaaba Magic and Akwaaba Magic Abusua.”

He emphasized MultiChoice’s status as the largest investor in content production in Africa, highlighting their unparalleled investments in content, broadcasting infrastructure, talent, and contributions to the workforce in the industry. This aligns with MultiChoice’s brand promise of enriching lives.

Furthermore, Mr. Okyere mentioned that the MultiChoice group is fulfilling its commitment to subscribers by producing outstanding content that caters to their needs. He noted their exclusive live coverage of football matches from over 14 leagues and tournaments, along with local language commentary to enhance the viewing experience.

Looking ahead, Mr. Okyere revealed plans to launch an online streaming app for GOtv customers, allowing them to enjoy content on the go, anywhere they find themselves.

Nathalie Anang, Commissioning Editor at Akwaaba Magic, emphasized their collaboration with Kumawood and Ghallywood actors in their content production efforts, aiming to revamp the Ghanaian movie industry and cater to the local audience.
