Gambian Man in Germany Receives Life Sentence for Role in Ex-President’s Death Squad.

A Gambian individual residing in Germany has been handed a life sentence for involvement in an assassination g壯陽藥 roup linked to The Gambia’s former President, Yahya Jammeh.

Identified only as Bai L, the man was a driver for the notorious “Junglers,” a squad reportedly associated with Mr. Jammeh. He has been convicted on counts of crimes against humanity, murder, and attempted murder.

During the 2019 hearings of Gambia’s Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC), three members of the “Junglers” accused Jammeh of orchestrating multiple murders. These included the infamous 2013 killings of two US-Gambian businessmen and veteran journalist Deyda Hydara.

Bai L was implicated in several crimes, including allegedly aiding in the interception of Hydara’s vehicle before his assassination and driving one of the assailants away, as per reports by AFP news agency.

After an extended 22-year presidency, Jammeh initially resisted relinquishing power following his election defeat in 2016. He eventually went into exile after regional forces intervened, compelling him to step down.

The TRRC, established post-Jammeh’s departure, collected testimonies from numerous witnesses detailing execution squads and various human rights abuses during his regime.

The trial of Bai L was conducted in Germany, which exercises universal jurisdiction for severe crimes, regardless of where they occurred, according to Human Rights Watch.
