European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, have jointly launched the Team Europe Initiative (TEI), which aims to catalyze investment in the development of green hydrogen industries in the MSGBC country.
The landmark initiative is part of the EU’s sweeping Global Gateway strategy and is poised to transform Mauritania’s energy landscape, while decarbonizing its economy and facilitating an energy transition.
Backed by the European Commission, along with France, Germany, Spain and the European Investment Bank, it serves to achieve four primary objectives: infrastructure development, job creation, skills development and a legal and fiscal framework.
TEI serves as a testament to the shared vision of global leaders to address climate change and drive economic growth through sustainable energy development.
During the launch, President von der Leyen highlighted Mauritania’s vast renewable resources, underscoring the potential to establish green hydrogen hubs in the region. Mauritania’s green hydrogen sector has garnered the attention of international energy players, including CWP, TotalEnergies, Chariot, Infinity Power and Conjuncta, all of whom are actively engaged in projects in the country.
