Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi’s supporters erupted in celebration following his official announcement of a re-election bid for the upcoming December presidential elections. Egypt is set to conduct a three-day presidential election from December 10 to 12, with the provision of a runoff on January 8 to 10 should no candidate secure more than 50% of the vote.
El-Sissi is entering the race as the overwhelming favorite, facing no substantial challenges from other candidates. Expressing unity and appreciation for his extensive efforts and significant changes during his tenure, one supporter remarked, “As Egyptians, we unite and recognize the tremendous effort the president has put in.” Their hope is for President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi to continue driving the development process.
El-Sissi has held the presidency since 2014, a period marked by his leadership role in the military overthrow of an elected but divisive Islamist president in 2013.
