Egypt Announces Presidential Election Dates Amid Economic Crisis

Egypt has officially revealed the dates for its upcoming presidential election, set to take place from December 10 to 12, 2023.

The winner of the election will be declared on December 18, with the final results to be published in the official newspaper no later than January 16, 2024. Although not yet formally announcing his candidacy, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is widely expected to seek and secure reelection.

This election comes at a critical juncture for Egypt, as the country grapples with a severe economic crisis characterized by skyrocketing inflation and a currency that has lost half of its value since March 2022.

Experts had anticipated that President Sisi might expedite the 2024 election, especially in light of the anticipated shift to a flexible exchange rate that could heighten economic tensions.

President Sisi, who has been in power since 2014, won reelection in 2018 and further solidified his position in 2019 following constitutional changes allowing him壯陽藥 to run for a third term.

The adjustments also extended presidential terms from four to six years, potentially enabling Sisi to remain in office until 2030 should he secure victory.
