Egypt: Minister Of Environment Announces The Launch Of The First Edition Of The Environmental And Climate Investment Forum

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of the Environment, announced the launch of the first edition of the Environmental and Climate Investment Forum in Egypt, on September 12 of this year, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, in the New Administrative Capital, and Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, is scheduled to inaugurate it.

The forum, with the participation of a large number of ministers, officials, heads of various economic and regulatory bodies, and leaders of major companies operating in various economic activities.

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, explained that the forum aims to present a package of promising investment opportunities for the private sector in several areas, including sustainable energy, waste recycling, eco-tourism, the bio-based economy, sustainable agriculture and food production, as well as identifying available investment opportunities, and presenting visions.

And proposals for the growth of environmental investment, noting that sectoral sessions will be held to raise awareness of the promising opportunities for young graduates and entrepreneurs in the field of climate change.

Dr. Yasmine Fouad pointed out that the Environmental and Climate Investment Forum is a continuation of Egypt’s pioneering role in preserving the environment and adapting to climate change, and building on the results of the COP27 climate change summit to strengthen the partnership with the private sector, to encourage them to provide more green investments to enhance Egypt’s path towards transformation. Green, as well as encouraging initiatives towards a better green future for Africa and the world as a whole, and completing the path towards the upcoming COP28 climate conference in the UAE.

The Minister of Environment confirmed that the Environmental and Climate Investment Forum will be organized annually to become the main event to present investment opportunities to the private sector to increase green investment, explaining that holding the forum comes within the framework of the Ministry of Environment’s keenness to achieve the goals of the Sustainable Development Strategy (Egypt Vision 2030) to protect natural resources and transform…

Environmental challenges turn into investment opportunities, and spread the concept of a revolving green economy, in line with the state’s directions to enhance the private sector’s contribution to the economy, which will reflect on achieving sustainable economic development and providing more job opportunities.

The Minister of Environment indicated that the Ministry has made great strides in promoting awareness of the importance of integrating the environmental dimension in all economic sectors, in a way that contributes to the continuation of the wheel of development and growth and the preservation of natural resources.

100% of the state’s projects are green, by setting the first criteria for integrating the environmental dimension into national plans and projects, and developing the national strategy for climate change, which aims to activate climate action in Egypt to achieve sustainable economic growth, pointing out that the ministry has completed its journey by establishing an environmental investment unit.

Climate is responsible for providing opportunities for the private sector to enter and participate in a number of environmental investment fields, and to create networking channels between financing and donor institutions with the private sector and entrepreneurs, in addition to providing all aspects of technical support and creating a supportive environment for environmental investment.

Dr. Yasmine Fouad confirmed that the environmental file witnessed a great development in light of the support of the political leadership for all environmental issues, and the sponsorship of environmental campaigns, including the “Get Ready for Green” campaign to raise environmental awareness, and the ratification of His Excellency the President of the Republic of the first law for waste management of all kinds in Egypt, which is based on The principle of the circular economy, the extended responsibility of the producer, and a clear definition of roles and responsibilities, and regulate mechanisms for the involvement of the private sector in the system, stressing that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s sponsorship of the Environmental and Climate Investment Forum confirms the interest of the political leadership in the green investment file, in order to achieve sustainable livelihoods and preserve the right Current and future generations.

The forum is organized in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) through the “Inclusive Green Growth in Egypt” project, and is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

The forum will reflect the efforts of UNIDO and the project, in cooperation with the Egyptian government, for comprehensive and sustainable industrial development in Egypt and the transition to a green and inclusive circular economy by promoting the creation of green business opportunities and working on their growth, in addition to achieving environmental sustainability in the main industrial sectors.
