Comoros: Vanilla Campaign 2022 – The Floor Price For Green Vanilla Set At Ten Thousand Francs

The Minister of Agriculture, Houmed M’saidie, the Minister of the Economy, Ahmed Ali Bazi, have fixed by decree the calendar and the 2022 vanilla campaign and the floor price for green vanilla. And, like last year, “the floor price for the purchase of green vanilla in the procedures is set at 10,000kmf for all qualities combined”, can we read in article 1 of decree N ° 022- 011/Mapeta/CAB.

The provision provides for strong penalties against any transgression of this rule, stipulating that “the marketing of green vanilla before the opening of the campaign is strictly prohibited”, and that the “offender is sanctioned with a prison sentence in accordance with the legislative and regulatory provisions in force and a fine, the rate of which is fixed by the national office for cash products”. With regard to prepared vanilla, its price including costs and bonuses, “is fixed at 65,198 kmf”, indicates article 2.

The campaign has been open since June 5. The first article of decree N°022-010/Mapeta/Cab, stipulates that “the 2022 vanilla campaign is open on June 05, 2022” throughout the national territory. However, the regions of Itsandra ya dju, Bambao ya Dju, Hambu ya Djumwa Panga, Mbadjini ya Dju, and Mberadju ya Mitsamihuli in Ngazidja, Dindri, Lingoni, Hada, Moya 2, Uzini and Bandrani 2 in Ndzuani, will have to wait until to June 20, 2022 to launch their campaign.

Consequently, “the opening of the preparation shops before the opening date of the campaign is strictly prohibited”, and “non-compliance causes the immediate withdrawal of the preparation card and the sticker followed by a fine of which the terms and the amount will be fixed by the Office”, warns article 2 of the aforementioned decree. The latter also warns about immature vanilla which will be “withdrawn from the market and destroyed by the Office”, at a time when certain producers have decided, faced with the rise in cases of vanilla theft in certain localities, to proceed to pick up their merchandise, lest it be, again, immature.
