After the rehabilitation of the high 500 (Rh500) reservoir, Sonede hopes for an improvement in water distribution in Moroni. However, the rehabilitation work is being carried out at the Rb2000 reservoir. Sonede will continue to supply the sim-tanks with a capacity of 2 thousand liters installed to soften the effects caused by this work.
The National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (Sonede) held a press conference on Saturday, September 23 at its headquarters, in response to the water crisis in Moroni.
The rehabilitation of the two storage reservoirs was at the center of discussions. According to the head of communications of the state company, Maarouf Moussa, the rehabilitation of the high 500 (Rh500) reservoir is currently completed.
He announced that it has been operational since last week, after tests carried out during which the water was usable for limited purposes. “We have recorded successful tests of water stored at the Rh500 level. The population can now use it for any purpose. We are under pressure because these two tanks supply the region from Bambao to Itsandra. The situation will improve this time after the operationalization of the said reservoir,” he hoped.
Maarouf Moussa then wanted to reassure that Sonede will continue to supply the sim-tanks with a capacity of 2 thousand liters installed to soften the effects caused by this work. “Now the water pressure has returned to normal at this rehabilitated reservoir.
However, rehabilitation work continues at the Rb2000 reservoir. It is difficult for the population to endure these disruptions, but it is a necessary step to find an adequate solution to the multiple water crises. Due to this work, the Rb2000 will be able to store 2 thousand liters of water,” he explained. The attaché to the director of Sonede, Kapachiya Mohamed Hassani, expressed the gratitude of the general management of the public establishment for the patience shown by the population.
A difficult passage, but necessary
“We are very concerned about this situation. With the operationalization of Rh500, the situation will improve. The Sotrivac company continues to make efforts to ensure that the situation returns to normal quickly,” he said. Despite the installation of six sim-tanks with a capacity of 2,000 liters to mitigate the effects of this work, the water shortage is still felt.
This work was launched three months ago by Sotrivac as part of the project to rehabilitate the water supply network in Moroni and its surroundings (Prrame). The Prrame project is financed by the Saudi Fund for Development (Fsd) and was launched in November 2022. The Sotrivac group has an execution time of twelve months.
