It’s official ! The Comoros will be the host country for the twelfth edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games. The decision was announced yesterday morning in Antananarivo, at the Novotel hotel, by the president of the International Gaming Council (ICJ), Antonio Gopal. The good news was to be repeated before the local press by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Djaanfar Salim Allaoui, alongside the president of the Olympic and Sports Committee of the Comoros Islands, Cosic, Ibrahim Mzé Mohamed.
“We will welcome the sporting youth of our south-west Indian Ocean region in four years. Our candidacy was ahead of those of Mayotte and the Maldives,” Minister Djaanfar Salim Allaoui announced yesterday at the same Novotel hotel. The highest sports authority in the Comoros reassured: “we will do it. All the conditions are met to launch the machine.
We have had the agreement in principle from a friendly country, the People’s Republic of China, to build us the Olympic swimming pool and the Gymnasium. These are the two main sports sites, which we are currently missing.
“We are well on our way to completing our project. We have put together a very good file for our application. It was well presented and well defended last Tuesday. We have bet a lot on its success,” added the president of the national Olympic committee.
For the second time, after 2015, the Comoros have just been granted the organization of this major event. The country had failed to defend and “protect the flag of the games” and the 2019 edition was ultimately organized in Mauritius.

The Comoros are preparing to organize the Jioi for the first time in their history. It all started on July 2, 2022 at the Moroni stadium during the opening ceremony of the “First Comoros Games”.
The head of state, Azali Assoumani, expressed, in front of more than four thousand people at Moroni Stadium, the intention to shelter the Jioi. “We are going to ask for the organization of the Island Games,” he announced on this occasion.

On September 3 at the Barea Mahamasina stadium, on the occasion of the closing of the Malagasy edition, the President of the National Olympic Committee and the Minister of Sports will officially receive the flag of the games, symbol “of the kick-off Jioi 2027 on Comorian soil.
