In March 2024, the Madi brothers, Latuf and Yanisse, will fight in Cairo, Egypt to try to win their tickets for the Olympic Games the same year in France. The two Comorian wrestlers were unable to do the job last week at the World Championships in Serbia after being eliminated from the tournament in their first match.
Latuf Madi, who had engaged in freestyle wrestling, fell against the reigning world champion, Iranian Rahman Mousa Amouzadkhalili. “The level was too high. Yanisse’s opponent was beaten in the semi-final, which meant that Yanisse was not drafted,” explained his big brother, Latuf.
The latter, gold medalist at the recent Indian Ocean Islands Games in Madagascar, was dismissed in the round of 16, Friday September 22 at the Stark Arena in Belgrade, in favor of the Frenchman, Léo Tudesca. “He’s the forever rival. Latuf will try to qualify for the Olympics during the Africa-Oceania Olympic qualifying tournament, in March 2024 in Cairo,” his club wants to believe. In Greece, Latuf Madi fought in his favorite discipline, 60 kg Greco-Roman wrestling.

The president of the Comorian wrestling federation, Abdallah Ali Ben Gigi, does not lose hope for his protégés. “I want to see them in Paris for the Olympics. Latuf and Yanisse hold to this qualification. We are going to pull out all the stops and create the conditions for them to realize their dream. They have the ability to do it,” Ben Gigi is convinced. Latuf and Yanisse won gold medals in freestyle wrestling on August 30 in Antananarivo, Madagascar. Since then, these two brothers from Mayotte have shown their ambition: grab a ticket for Paris 2024.
