Chad: key military engineering strategies to prevent flooding in N’Djamena

The Minister of Territorial Planning, Housing and Urban Planning, Mahamat Assileck Halata, received the report of the mission of the Office of Military Engineering concerning the management of floods in the ten districts of the city of N’Djamena, Wednesday November 22, 2023.

This mission, carried out in collaboration with the Office of Military Engineering and Production as well as those responsible for the ten districts of N’Djamena, was responsible for evaluating the urgent works necessary to prevent and combat flooding in the city.

The report revealed several key points, including the need to build water drainage systems and rehabilitate pumping stations. He also highlighted the importance of cleaning the V-shaped canal in the 4th arrondissement, as well as the need to clean the pipes in almost all arrondissements and to build dikes and develop the banks.

According to this report, if the government implements the proposed works, N’Djamena could be spared from flooding during the rainy season. The mission, which began on November 2, ended on November 15, 2023.
