Chad: 1.5 Million Euros To ZIZ Energie For Construction Specializing In Rural And Urban Electrification

Proparco has granted a loan of 1.5 million euros to ZIZ Energie, a construction company specializing in rural and urban electrification. The funding provided will enable ZIZ energy to launch a decentralized energy infrastructure project which aims to develop, construct and operate energy mini-grids in secondary cities across the country.

Chad’s electrification rate is very low (6% compared to 48% on average in Sub-Saharan Africa), and the energy network is today concentrated around the capital N’djamena. The decentralization of energy is therefore a key issue for the country.

For more than 15 years, ZIZ Energie has been developing mini-networks in Chad, from their financing to their implementation. In a local context of centralization of the energy network, ZIZ Energie makes it possible to provide an accessible and clean solution in the cities where the company is established: via the use of reliable renewable energy, ZIZ Energie contributes to the reduction of the use of polluting diesel generators which supply households, public administrations and SMEs.

Thus, the project will generate significant impacts, in particular by improving the quality of life of nearly 500,000 people in the country, thanks to greater access to electricity (from 10 hours/day to 20 hours/day) without volatility prices.

For Mehdi Tanani, Regional Director – Central Africa at Proparco: “Proparco is proud to support a key player in the energy sector. The decentralization of energy in Chad is a key issue and ZIZ Energie, with its expertise and commitment, will help improve the daily lives of thousands of people. »

The project will contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 7 (“Clean and affordable energy”), SDG 9 (“Innovation and infrastructure”), SDG 11 (“Sustainable cities and communities”) and SDG 13 (“Measures relating to the fight against climate change).

Proparco, a subsidiary of the French Development Agency group, has been working for more than 45 years alongside private actors in the service of a fairer and more sustainable world. With an international network of 23 local locations, Proparco is close to its partners to build sustainable solutions in response to environmental and social challenges in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America.

Proparco has sectoral expertise, a range of diversified financial tools adapted to the different stages of development of the company, particularly with its subsidiary Digital Africa and a technical support offer Propulse, to multiply the impacts and the performance of its partners.
