Cape Verde: Morocco Approves Investment Agreement Signed With The State

The Moroccan Government approved on Thursday the agreement for the promotion and mutual protection of investments with Cape Verde, concluded during the Cape Verdean Prime Minister’s visit to the country in May, an executive source announced today.

According to a Lusa order, the approval, by the council of ministers, reflects the desire to “ deepen cooperation with Cape Verde ”, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, upon receiving letters of credentials from the new Cape Verdean ambassador in Morocco, Elijah Andrade.

The diplomat expressed the desire to “ operationalize the political and legal instruments signed in the 2nd Mixed Commission ”, held in May, in which an agreement to abolish visas was also signed with the aim of promoting tourism.

At the time, a convention was also signed to avoid double taxation and prevent tax evasion, understandings in the areas of spatial planning, housing and durable urban development, as well as other documents on activities linked to youth, women, training and scholarships.

According to the same source, the next joint commission will take place in Cape Verde, on a date to be announced, alongside the opening of the Moroccan embassy in Praia.

The Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva, said, in May, that relations between the two countries are at a “special moment ”, with the “formalization of the recognition of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco by Cape Verde, between other initiatives that reinforce the political and diplomatic basis for the exploration and development of cooperation between the two nations ”.
