Burundi: President Ndayishimiye Appeases Citizens Over “Coup Rumors”

President Evariste Ndayishimiye on Sunday evening September 24 denied coup rumors spread during his nearly two-week stay in Cuba and the United States, during an address on national television after his arrival in the country.

In his speech after arriving in the country, President Ndayishimiye declared that “these rumors are being spread by those who still want Burundi to fail, since they have actually seen it become recognized and have its voice known worldwide”.

“We’ve been through this in the past, but today we’re united: We sleep knowing we’ll wake up to work.’ However, the lazy would say that socialism is greater than work and would start with rumors. However, now I strongly urge that no one should be terrified by what they have heard, they should say what they have seen”. President Ndayishimiye noted.

In addition, the Minister of Security published a message on Xweb this Monday condemning the rumors, which began to appear after a week.

The ministry said that ” peace and security are everything in the country. Don’t pay attention to the rumors that confuse them, just listen to what their leaders have given them.”

Counting both potential and averted coups , Burundi is one of the African countries with the most coups, with a total of 11.
