AU Commission and US State Department Reinforce Pledge to Collaborate.

African Union Commission Chair, Moussa Faki Mahamat met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington, marking the commencement of the Ninth Annual U.S.-AU Commission High-Level Dialogue. The discussions primarily revolved around strengthening the relationship between the United States and African Union member states.

Secretary Blinken reiterated the United States’ commitment to supporting increased African representation in international institutions. He congratulated the African Union on its achievement of securing permanent membership in the G20, emphasizing the growing partnership between the United States and the AU. This recognition underscores the AU’s crucial regional and global role, as demonstrated by its recent inclusion in the G20.

Chairperson Faki and Secretary Blinken reached a consensus to bolster mutual support for sustainable democratic transitions and collaborate on promoting stability, food security, climate mitigation, pandemic preparedness, and good governance across the African continent.

Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat expressed optimism about the ongoing development in the partnership between the United States and the African Union. He highlighted the partnership’s focus on key priorities such as vision, security, democracy, development, and climate change. The Chairperson’s positive outlook reflects the fruitful nature of the collaboration, with a shared desire to expand and deepen the partnership.
