Gunmen launched a daring assault on Friday, December 1, targeting the residence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria, triggering a prolonged and intense gun battle with security personnel, as reported by the Independen犀利士 t National Electoral Commission (INEC).

During the confrontation that spanned over 30 minutes, armed assailants engaged security forces in a fierce firefight. Despite the intensity of the exchange, no casualties were reported. However, the violent incident resulted in property damage.

INEC confirmed the incident, highlighting the armed assailants’ sustained attack on the security personnel stationed at the REC’s residence until reinforcements arrived to bolster the defense.

The swift response from security forces eventually quelled the assault, bringing the situation under control. The motive behind the attack and the identities of the assailants remain under investigation.
