Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetwon, has remained tense since Sunday, even as the mandatory 24-hour curfew was eased to a dusk-to-dawn lockdown.
This came after President Juulius Madda Bio said that most of the leaders of the weekend’s attacks on the country’s main military barracks and prisons had been arrested. Not much is publicly known about the identities or intentions of the attackers. There were no claims of liability. The Army spokesman said on Monday night that 13 soldiers were killed during the incident. AFP quoted Colonel Issa Bangura as saying that retired and active military personnel were among those wanted.
Sierra Leone has been under tension since mid-August last year. At the time, massive protests in parts of Freetown and other areas in the north of the country shook the nation.
