A 43-year-old man died while testing a bulletproof spell in Bauchi state, Nigeria, local authorities said.

According to Africanews, the traditional healer who fired the shot with a locally manufactured weapon has been arrested, along with two others, while other suspects remain at large.

The victim was identified as Muhammadu Ali, a resident of the region, who was rescued by the police, but was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

Investigations continue to hold those suspected of the crime legally responsible.

According to the same source, the use of bulletproof amulets with supposed magical properties is common in Nigeria, with many people seeking help from healers for various problems.

However, several cases of fatalities resulting from testing these charms and medicines have already been recorded, and authorities warn about the dangerous use of these devices.
