Players, clubs and managers from the Premier League (English league) wore black armbands last weekend, in respect for the victims of the War between Israel and the Hamas movement.
The use of black armbands in Premier League games to honor victims of disasters, conflicts or tragedies has already happened in previous years, including this season, during the floods in Libya or the earthquake in Morocco.
Here is the statement issued by the English league:
“We hope for peace and our sincere condolences go out to the victims, their families and the communities affected. As a mark of respect for everyone affected, Premier League players, coaches and referees will wear black armbands and observe a moment of silence before of the games to be held Saturday 21st until Monday 23rd October”.
It was also announced in the document that the Premier League will make a donation to the British Red Cross and will help those who urgently need humanitarian support.
