Chad: The State Seeks Support From CDC Africa To Strengthen Its Health System

A team from the Chadian Ministry of Health met with officials from CDC Africa in New York. The Chadian authoritarians presented their health inadequacies to this African Union agency.

On the sidelines of the ongoing 78th United Nations Assembly, a delegation from the Ministry of Public Health consulted with a team from the African Centers for Disease Surveillance and Prevention (Africa CDC). The objective was to present the health needs of Chad and to identify the different possibilities with which the public health agency of the African Union could support Chad in strengthening its health system.

The Chadian delegation, led to the meeting by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Health and Prevention Dabsou Guidaoussou, took stock of the health system, mentioning among other things the insufficiencies of human resources in quantity and quality. , the establishment of the National Institute of Public Health.

He focused on the strategy adopted for strong community involvement in health interventions, the problem of data quality, poor preparation to deal with epidemics/pandemics, poor management of resources, drugs , logistics and storage.

The Secretary General placed particular emphasis on the management of the crisis in eastern Chad, caused by the massive influx of Sudanese refugees and returnees following the armed conflict in this country.

The Ministry of Health reports that the Director of Cabinet of CDC Africa offered to help Chad to equip the emergency operations center of the said ministry, the implementation of the National Institute of Public Health with equipment and human resources, protection of health workers.

Also financing missions to exchange experiences with African countries which have implemented public health institutes, capacity building and the establishment of a training program in Chad, strengthening health care primary through funding from the Susan Buffet Thompson Foundation and support in strengthening health research in Chad.
