by admin-anb

The government of Somalia has received a sum of 5 million pounds from the British government, through the United Nations Support Office for Somalia (UNSOS), to support the Somali security forces in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

This amount was announced in a meeting between the National Security Adviser of Somalia, Hussein Sheikh Ali and the UK Deputy National Security Adviser for International Affairs, Dame Sarah MacIntosh.

The two advisers discussed many issues, including the fight against al-Shabaab, the development of the security sector, the lifting of sanctions, and the strategic cooperation between Somalia and the UK.

This funding is part of the UK’s ongoing contribution to the security and stability of Somalia through the UNSOS Trust Fund, which provides support to the Somali Security Forces.

UK National Security Adviser Dame Sarah MacIntosh emphasized the importance of this financial support to the search for peace in Somalia.

“The security partnership between the UK and Somalia is important for the stability and security of Somalia and the region,” said Ms. Sarah McIntosh.

She reiterated the UK’s commitment to provide massive support to the Somali government to stabilize the newly liberated areas.

“The UK will continue to support Somali-led efforts to combat terrorism and restore stability in recaptured areas of the country,” she added.
