Cholera Outbreak Claims Nine Lives in North-West Ethiopia’s Benishangul-Gumuz Region, Spreads to Sudanese Refugee Camps.
In a concerning development, a cholera outbreak has claimed the lives of nine individuals in Ethiopia’s north-western Benishangul-Gumuz Region, as reported by state television (ETV) on Sunday, citing health authorities.
Abdulmunhem Al-Beshir, a regional health official, disclosed that a total of 131 people have been infected during this outbreak, with nine unfortunate fatalities, according to ETV. The outbreak has now reached three districts, raising alarm within the Benishangul-Gumuz Health Bureau.
Tragically, another cholera outbreak has also ravaged Ethiopian soil, resulting in the death of nine Sudanese refugees in the north-western Amhara region.
Local media sources have revealed that this cholera scourge has spread across 11 regions of Ethiopia over the past year, claiming the lives of 320 individuals.
This dire situation is further compounded by a two-year-long civil war and severe drought, exacerbating the already profound humanitarian crisis gripping the region.
