The National Development Army officially kicked off the celebrations of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad in Moroni last Friday, September 15. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Bianrifi Tharmidhi, acting head of state, and an audience of authorities and diplomats.

On this occasion, the Quran was recited by Oustadh Abdallah Ali Abdallah, and the Mufti of the Republic presented his best wishes for happiness and prosperity to the Muslims of the Comoros archipelago on the occasion of this month of Maoulid of the 1444 AH. The religious ceremony was structured around the theme of “solidarity, a factor of stability in society, following the example of the Messenger of Islam”, as the Grand Mufti underlined.

In his sermon during the ceremony, the Grand Cadi recalled the period of the beginnings of Islam, highlighting “the importance of the military in the evolution of societies” and how “armies were supposed to conquer territories”. Saïd Mohamed Athoumane called on the military to “serve their country at all times and in all places”.

He also urged the ulama to pray regularly for the protection of the country in the face of natural disasters, notably the Karthala volcano. In his acceptance speech, the defense delegate, Youssoufa Mohamed Ali, recalled the commitment of the Comorian Army serving the economic and social development of the country. “The Army at the service of the people” remains according to him “a founding principle” and that “the military remains engaged in development missions”.
