Mauritius: 3,903 Trail Runners – A New Participation Record

The 16th edition of the CIEL Ferney Trail, scheduled for September 9, promises to be faithful to its reputation with a deluge of events and emotions in the four races on the program. Around 3,400 participants in previous years, excluding the period of restrictions linked to Covid-19, this edition will be historic with a record participation of 3,903 people. This trail will be another beautiful human adventure, inclusive and an opportunity to connect with wild nature.

The final details of the organization and the routes were presented on August 31 by Jean-Marc Rivet, race director, during a press conference at the CIEL Group headquarters in Ebène. Guillaume Dalais, Deputy Group Chief Executive of CIEL, also shared CIEL’s vision for the evolution of Ferney, focused on the innovative concept of Tropical Agrihood, a first in Mauritius.

Representatives of the sponsors of the four races shared their initiatives related to the CIEL Ferney Trail. Sunlife will once again host the Kids Corner , Bank One renews its support for natural environment conservation initiatives and will make a photo booth available to participants, and C-Care will make a donation of around Rs 200,000 to the NGO Link to Life . As part of several actions in support of the fight against cancer, C-Care is committed to offering Rs 50 for each kilometer traveled by each participant in the C-Care 35km race. CIEL is the main sponsor and organizer of the event.

This sixteenth edition of the CIEL Ferney Trail will see record attendance. The CIEL 10km race has the largest number of registered participants, with 2,268 participants at the start at 8 a.m. 1,043 people will be on the line for the Sunlife 5km Fun Run at 9:30 a.m. The two races intended for the most experienced trail runners will have a few hundred people under the “start” arch : 472 for the Bank One 18km (start at 6:30 a.m.) and 120 for the C-Care 35km (first strides at 6 a.m.).

“We strongly advise participants who will be on the races with the highest registrations to go to the CIEL Ferney Trail Village well in advance. The bib verification process will take time given the very large number of people, and departure cannot be delayed. It is recommended to arrive in Ferney two hours before departure for the CIEL 10km, also taking into account the distance to walk from the car park ,” specifies Jean-Marc Rivet, race director.

Bibs for all races and t-shirts ordered can be collected today at Nouvelle Usine in Mangalkhan, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In line with the values ​​of the CIEL Ferney Trail and the CIEL Group, the organizers and their sponsors have decided to give the bib to participants without “race packs” and to provide t-shirts only on order, in order to optimize the energy balance. and limit carbon production – while lowering registration fees. In order to reduce the use of plastic, participants are also asked to equip themselves with their own reusable cans and bottles to refill on site at the water fountains made available to them by the organizers.

The CIEL Ferney Trail routes follow marked paths which cross the Ferney estate. These routes do not follow the trails within the La Vallée de Ferney conservation area, the preservation of which is essential, but they allow you to enjoy of the particular atmosphere of other wooded areas. All departures and arrivals will take place at the Village du CIEL Ferney Trail, in front of the old factory and near the new Jardin des Sens de Ferney.
