4.9 magnitude earthquake hits region between South Sudan and Uganda

An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale hit the area near the border between South Sudan and Uganda this Monday.

According to Lusa, which cites the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the alert was given at 9:54 pm (local time), east of Yei, in South Sudan. The earthquake occurred at a depth of around

eight kilometers, EMSC added.

So far, there are no reports of material damage or victims.
